LONDON OVERGROUND UPDATE (15 mins including questions)

The representative from London Overground is requested to provide an update on the current issues.

The Transport Liaison Consultative Group accepts that the London Overground system is in need of the extensive programme of engineering work currently being undertaken.  However, the works must be phased and co-ordinated to allow people to still go about their daily lives.  It is particularly disappointing that the Barking to Gospel Oak Line is due to be closed in all or part for thirty-eight weekends in 2009 for engineering work, starting in early February.  The group requests a detailed explanation of why such extensive closures are necessary.

LONDON UNDERGROUND UPDATE (15mins including questions)

The representative from London Underground is requested to provide an update on current issues.

-         Request from residents to carry out appropriate cleaning works at Blackhorse Road tube station.

The Transport Liaison Consultative Group accepts that the London Underground system is in need of the extensive programme of engineering work currently being undertaken in order to achieve the major upgrades of services.  However, we note that for the last three Sundays in March, there will be no Victoria Line, no Central Line between Liverpool Street and Leytonstone and furthermore no Barking to Gospel Oak Line.  We find this unacceptable.  On the weekend of 17-18 January there were no less than seven underground lines with partial or full closures.  This extent of closures makes journeys extremely difficult and overcrowded.

The group requests a detailed explanation of why it is necessary to have such a major programme of closures all in place at the same time.
